Tools for Drones

    Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and the choices you have

    Effective 19 October 2026

    Who we are

Tools for Drones (“we”, “us”) is a set of web tools for planning and preparing DJI drone missions, run from Australia. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use toolsfordrones.com, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Questions or requests: feedback@toolsfordrones.com.

Using the tools without an account

Most tools work without signing in. When you convert, split or plan a file without an account, the file is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to us. Two exceptions:

    • Send with a code: the file is uploaded so your controller can download it, and is deleted automatically after the code expires.
    • PPK Base Data: your browser downloads base station data directly from Geoscience Australia. Your flight files stay on your device; Geoscience Australia sees a normal web request.

What we collect when you have an account

    • Account details: your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
    • Your content: projects, areas, missions, routes and the files you upload or create (KML, KMZ and similar). These usually contain the locations of the sites you plan to fly.
    • Fleet and controllers: the drones you add, the controllers you link, their names and when they last connected.
    • Activity in the app: what you sent to which controller and when, and your settings and planner defaults.
    • Error reports: when something breaks, the app sends us the error message, the page you were on, your browser type and, if you are signed in, your account ID. These never include your files.

    Analytics, advertising and cookies

    • Umami measures page views and tool use. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you.
    • Google Ads conversion tracking tells us when a visit from one of our ads leads to someone using a tool or signing up. Google may set cookies for this. You can control ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
    • We keep sign-in details and preferences (such as your last map position and units) in your browser’s local storage so the app works between visits.

    How we use it

We use your information to run the service: store your projects, build and send your mission files, keep you signed in, fix problems and work out which tools to improve. We email you only about your account (for example, to confirm your address or reset your password). We do not sell your information, and we do not use your content for advertising.

    Who we share it with

We use these providers to run the service. Each only gets what it needs for its part:

    • Supabase, through Lovable Cloud: database, sign-in and file storage.
    • Mapbox: map and satellite imagery. Your browser requests map tiles for the areas you view.
    • Google: sign-in with Google, and Google Ads conversion measurement.
    • Umami: cookie-free usage statistics.
    • Stripe and PayPal: if you choose to donate. They handle the payment; we never see your card details.

Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to Australian law. We will also disclose information if the law requires it.

Security and how long we keep it

Your data is protected by sign-in and by database rules that only let your account read your own projects, files and settings. Files you upload are stored privately. Nothing on the internet is perfectly secure, so please don’t upload anything you aren’t comfortable storing online.

We keep your information while your account is open. Transfer files are deleted when their code expires. Error reports are kept for up to 90 days.

    Your choices

    • Delete your account: Settings → Delete account removes your account, projects, missions, files, fleet and controller links. Copies may remain in backups for a short time before they are overwritten.
    • Access or correct your information: most of it you can see and edit in the app. For anything else, email feedback@toolsfordrones.com.
    • Complaints: email us first and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

    Children

The service is meant for drone operators and isn’t directed at children under 16.

    Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For a significant change, we’ll tell signed-in users in the app.
